I love summer. For me it’s always been a pretty carefree time in which: I go back to my home in Biarritz- the South of France, spend a bit of time in my hometown of Paris, squeeze lemon juice in my hair & go to the beach, go to a good old music festival and generally forget about my worries. This summer has started that exact way. I think it is a great time relax and think about the academic year that has just flown by and think about everything that has changed- and in my case, I feel like a lot has. But because this is a fashion blog, I am going to concentrate on my physical appearance and how a new look for me was in order. I previously had long chestnut coloured hair until a month ago when I decided to cut it to a blonde midlength style, with a fringe- being blonde alone has changed my way of dressing. I know feel like I can wear a lot of black without it being to depressing, but I also have to make sure that I do not look too cutesie and childish in what I wear- which is easily done with my colouring. So where am I going with this? Well basically I am going to talk about how different clothes suit different hair styles. Sorry for beating about the bush a little.
Motel Erica Dress – Black with Pink trim (£42)
Now, I would personally say that this sort of dress should be left to the quirkier girls or classy ladies, because as you can imagine this sort of revealing dress could look tacky with overly bleached or styled hair. Therefore I would either wear this dress if (like the model) I had long flowing, natural looking brown hair- mostly because it would impose less of a contrast with the dress, making it softer on the eye. In this case I would wear it with little or no jewelry. On the total opposite hand, I think this dress would also look good with a short pixie hair cut (any colour), for a bit of quirkyness, with some jewelry.
Motel Riley Dress – Black (£52)
For this dress, I am going to totally contradict what I said in the last paragraph. I think this (beautiful!) dress would look so much better on a girl with more volume in her hair and perhaps a bit more depth to the colour, or brightly coloured red or blond hair. I do not mean it should be dolled up a la Cheryl Cole- I basically mean some attitude is needed in the hair for this. Why? Simply because the dress is not plain, but because it is monochrome and black, it requires either amazing shoes, some jewelry and accessories, or a vibrant hair colour (short or long). (Blondes and Red Heads this is for you).
Motel Fay T – Night Sky Grey (£22)
This example I think is perfect. The top has a sort of relaxed, vintage feel, and I think it looks perfect with the model’s hair. The dark colour creates a pretty contrast with the grey tone of the top. I like how the top is perfectly relaxed, just like her unfussy hair. Beautiful.
So there you have it. What do you think? Do you think you should wear whatever you want and disregard hair styles, or do you think it is a vital part of your look? :]
